The College Library

The Library services are provided to the College community from the Main Library.  The library operating system is under automation and it services are organized as depicted in the Organizational Chart shown below.  

The library is organized into three main divisions – collection development, readers’ services and technical services.  Each division has sections/units. Collection development has Acquisition Unit; Readers services has Reference, Circulation, Serial/Special collection, Reprographic Units; and Technical services has Cataloguing and Audio visual Units.  All the sections work hand-in-hand to achieve the goals of the library system.  
The Units are also interrelated or interdependent for effective administration and the use of the library materials.

Library Livestock
To measure up to the technological advancement in the globe, the College Library has improved on her existing holdings in the underlisted areas:

  • Over 73,000 volumes of books excluding journals
  • There is the addition of the E-Library comprising; E-journals 
  • Internet facilities and E-Resource centre with the provision of Fifty (50) computers that can be put to use simultaneously

Lending policy:
The Library lends books to all categories of students [full-time and part-time] and staff [academic and administrative]. The lending policy is such that a staff could borrow six [6] books for four [4] weeks; and renewable when no other user needs same.  
In case of a regular loan, a student could borrow four [4] books for two [2] weeks.  On the other hand, for reserved books, one [1] book per student for two [2] hours is allowed.

Professional Services offered by the Library
The library offers the following services to ensure maximum use of its facilities by members of the academic community [i.e. both staff and students].
i.       Loaning and borrowing library materials to entitled students who are duly registered in the library on regular, short-term and weekend loans while staff are allowed same, including long-term loans.
ii.       Reference services are offered to staff, students and external users.  Provision of answers to reference queries and interpretation of library of library resources to users.  Research assistance is also provided for lecturers and students having projects.
  iii.         Reservation of heavily used books which are limited in copies at the reserve or short-time loan section of the library to ensure proper circulation.
 iv.        Recall service – Any book or material borrowed may be recalled at any time if need arises.
 v.        Research, and bibliographic sources – Lecturer with research topics and students with projects and term papers to write are given literature search services and further guidance on how to write projects and on citation methods.
  vi.        Inter-library loan – Materials on request, which are not held on the library, can be obtained for users from sister libraries.
   vii.       National Library inter-library lending request and British Library lending division coupons – these are suitable for journals articles, research reports and books which cannot be easily located in Nigeria.  This service is free of charge to users.
  viii.        Photocopying service – this service is provided at a much less subsidised rate.
 ix.        Library orientation programme – This is offered to newly admitted students to acquaint them the operations and service rendered,  physical facilities, rules and regulations, etc.
  x.       Library user education – a proposed structured library instruction programme to show how the library can be of immense value to students and skilful tips on the use of libraries for information, research, future education and recreation.

Library Discipline
  1. Books are not to be taken out of the Library without the due process of charging.
  2. All books borrowed should be returned on or before the date due.
  3. Library identity cards are not transferable.
  4. All borrowings and renewals must be done personally.
  5. The Library identity card must be brought to the Library and produced upon demand
  6. Submit all books to the porter for inspection when leaving the Library.
  7.  Fines are paid at the rate of N200.00per day when a book is overdue.
  8.  Books lost or damaged should be reported immediately and paid for at the estimated cost of replacement as determined by the Librarian.
  9. All cases of stealing, mutilation    or defacing of books will be dealt with severely.
  10. All Library materials must be treated with great care including the reading tables and chairs.  .
  11. Seats should not be RESERVED in the library.
  12. SILENCE must be observed in the Library at all times.  
  13. Bags, briefcases, umbrellas, etc should not be brought into the Library.  They must be kept in the pigeon holes provided for such at owner’s risk.
  14. Smoking, drinking, eating and sleeping are not allowed.
  15. Use of any form of naked light such as candles is prohibited.
  16.  Respect all Library staff on duty.
